Swimmer Against the Beast

Up to a thousand swimmers come to San Francisco each year for the South End Rowing Club’s biggest fund raiser–a boat, zodiac and kayak supported crossing from Alcatraz back to the city. The famed prison island is what is at the forefront of most guests’ mind. What they discover during the swim, is that it is not the island they face, but Nature herself and the element of water. The Russian word for “white cap” is “little ram”–the white foam being reminiscent of a ram’s fleece. The breaststroker here is going head to head with one of those rams.

This design graced the tee-shirts, bags and website for the Alcatraz Invitational 2017. It is still a collector’s item today.
