Muni Pier

San Francisco sits between the Ocean and the Bay. What happens when you immerse yourself in these waters? An unexpected, wild, stark, and natural San Francisco reveals itself. This is one of twelve views produced for “Open Water: San Francisco” the calendar. For Level Five it was a personal project made possible by intersection of art, design, open water swimming, and a love for this place.

The cove at Aquatic Park is usually the first place an open water swimmer begins his or her journey in San Francisco. Shown here, in a dream-like perspective is the end of Muni Pier and the structure the swimmers call “the Wedding Cake”. The sun is setting somewhere west of the Golden Gate Bridge as three friends bob up and down in little cinder-cone-shaped waves, pelicans fly overhead and a sailboat tacks.
