OK, after much complaining on our part, summer, glorious summer has finally arrived in Mongolia. The weather, while far from tropical, has been very pleasant, yet highly changeable. In the top image, taken on the summit of a mountain (1998 meters/6555 feet altitude according to the GPS unit in Alan's left hand), notice that Zina is A) wearing a scarf, and B) that both it and her hair are flapping quite vigorously in the wind. Despite the chill, is a huge relief to be able to be outside!
We had some disagreement about which image to start with, so we've put both up. The lower image is a Trollius asiaticus, also known as a globeflower. It's pretty common, growing along streams. It's just one of the gorgeous flowers found here.In case you don't know us, my name is Alan Lapp, and my wife is Zina Deretsky. I am a professional designer and illustrator, and Zina is a scientific/medical illustrator. Zina is the reason we are here in Mongolia: she won a Luce Scholarship and this is our placement.
