My belief about photo-illustration is that it should look as if it were shot with a camera. Most players won't tip their hands, but I believe an educated client is a good client. With education, we can avoid the question "can't you just put my new type on it?"

This seemingly simple editing job is actually quite complicated. Here's a brief walk-through on the steps required:



First, the original:


Then, the text has to be cloned out, which is a skill of its own.


Then the text is generated and aligned. It must distort believably where it follows the surface.


Last, and most important to believability, shadow and texture are applied.
