Political advertising often runs on clichés, which is a form of shorthand, kind of like an inside joke. Letting people know they're looking at a cliché, but not insulting their intelligence with trite, over-used visuals is a skill. The client loved this piece, it tested very well, and it was used a second time close to the election.
